With over a decade of experience as a Maths Lead, Sally has led the implementation of the mastery approach across Boughton Heath Academy, resulting in significant improvements in teaching, learning, and pupil progress. Her dedication to mastery led her to achieve Primary Mastery Specialist status in 2021, followed by obtaining a NCETM Accredited Professional Development Lead qualification. As a Maths Mastery Specialist, she has had the privilege of supporting many schools in implementing Maths Mastery, a rewarding experience that has empowered her to train maths leads and teachers in the mastery approach.  This role involves leading Teacher Research Groups (TRGs), conducting school visits, and providing tailored support to schools on their journey with Maths Mastery. She has led initiatives to reduce variation in pupil progress and attainment, ensuring all pupils are challenged and all areas of maths are effectively taught. She is passionate about instilling resilience and a growth mindset in pupils, believing that every child should find enjoyment and success in maths. Collaboration and partnership are at the heart of her approach, and she takes pride in offering support that empowers schools to drive their own improvement.

Purpose

Within the CAT Maths Community, our core mission is to cultivate a passion for and proficiency in mathematics among all students. We prioritise the development of mathematical learning behaviours that encourage focus, reasoning, and connections, while our teachers engage in ongoing collaboration to refine their instructional practices.

Our curriculum design is centered on a coherent and comprehensive sequence of essential content, facilitating students' sustained growth over time. Lesson planning is meticulously crafted to build on previous learning, utilising carefully chosen examples and representations to deepen understanding and encourage the synthesis of mathematical concepts.

In our classrooms, interactive teaching methods ensure that every student is actively engaged in mastering mathematical concepts. Teachers facilitate dynamic interactions to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills, while precise mathematical language supports effective communication of reasoning.

Additionally, we are committed to curating comprehensive knowledge bases and resources, providing teachers and subject leaders with the tools needed to deliver high-quality mathematics education. Furthermore, as part of our community, we offer school improvement support, facilitated by School Improvement Directors Kate Doyle, Andrea Curran, and CLTA, ensuring that every school can excel in mathematics education. Through our dedication to these principles, we align with the Five Big Ideas in Teaching for Mastery, driving sustainable progress and enriching the mathematical experiences of all students within our community.
