Duration: 1 day

This event will take place between 9:30am and 4:00pm on 12/10/2023

  • This course will update even the most experienced Subject Leader in promoting the subject of History in light of the recent changes in Ofsted's Education Inspection framework, but it is equally as important for the new Subject Leader, helping them to understand what is required of them in their new role. E.g. the new emphasis on substantive and disciplinary knowledge and concepts will be fully explored.
  • You will gain an overview of the National Curriculum requirements in KS1 and KS2, building upon the history taught in Early Years, in line with the 2021 Development Matters guidance and the current need to think of progression from Early Years to Year 6.
  • You will leave with lots of practical ideas, resources and materials to support the development of your role and action planning and important messages to share with your colleagues
  • Generic suggestions to explore chronology so children develop a mental timeline and coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain's past and the wider world.

Outline:

  • Methods of reviewing the state of History in your school (e.g. making an audit, setting up an effective file and how to create an evidence trail)
  • How to ensure coverage and enhance planning/delivery of the National Curriculum
