HOW TO BE AN OUTSTANDING GEOGRAPHY SUBJECT LEADER (REMOTE)

This event will take place between 9:30am and 4:00pm on 22/11/2023

  • This course will update even the most experienced the Subject Leader in promoting the subject of Geography in light of the recent changes in Ofsted's Education Inspection framework, but it is equally as important for the new Subject Leader, helping them to understand what is required of them in their new role. E.g. the new emphasis on substantive and disciplinary knowledge and concepts will be fully explored
  • You will gain an overview of the National Curriculum requirements in KS1 and KS2, building upon the history taught in Early Years, in line with the 2021 Development Matters guidance and the current need to think of progression from Early Years to Year 6
  • You will leave with practical ideas, resources and materials to support the development of your role and action planning and important messages to share with your colleagues
  • Generic suggestions to explore locational and place knowledge of geography, with practical suggestions for developing mapwork and fieldwork skills
  • Information on support which is available to support your role

Outline:

  • Methods of reviewing the state of Geography in your school (e.g. making an audit, setting up an effective file and how to create an evidence trail
  • How to ensure coverage and enhance planning/delivery of the National Curriculum
  • Progression of knowledge, concepts and skills with suggestions for meaningful, manageable assessment in Geography

Dates:

Full day training: 22/11/23 from 9:30 -16:00. 

Subsequent twilight networks: 05/12/23, 12/03/24 & 18/06/24 from 16:00 - 17:30.  

All sessions are remote

Cost:

Full day training: £130

Twilights: £30 each
