Example Support Packages

 

EXAMPLE 1:Focus of improvement within EYFS/Year 1 Class

Key Aims:

  • To develop a consistentand rigorous approach to pupil assessment, tracking and analysis
  • To develop opportunities to accelerate pupil progress through targeted classroom provision (indoor and outdoor)
  • To further develop opportunities for independent learning within the classroom environment

Initial meeting to identify aims and objectives of support package

Half day

Headteacher from the school receiving support would meet with the SLE to:

  • Identify aims and objectives
  • Agree dates and times
  • Ensure expectations of SLE is understood

SLE to visit school requiring support to collect and discuss evidence of current practice re: assessment, provision

Half day

  • SLE to meet EYFS & Year 1 Staff
  • SLE to visit classroom and outdoor environment to audit provision

SLE to prepare Support Action Plan

SLE to collect and discuss evidence of current practice re: assessment, provision, action planning etc and agree Headteacher’s ‘next steps’ for the class

Half day

  • Headteacher to share existing practice with SLE
  • SLE to monitor assessment data
  • SLE to monitor a dip sample of Learning Journeys
  • SLE to review pupil progress data and analysis

EYFS & Year 1 practitioners to visit school offering support to observe ‘good practice’

Half day

  • Staff to photograph areas of provision and classroom layout in Reception and Year 1
  • Staff to look at a sample of ‘books’ and ‘files’ in Reception and Year 1 to identify strengths and agree possible outcomes for pupils in school receiving support
  • Staff to look through resources and storage facilities to gain ideas for how to develop own provision areas

Staff to speak to SLE about classroom and outdoor provision areas and links to EYFS/NC

SLE to illustrate a ‘good practice’ model of pupil assessment, tracking and planning

Half day

  • SLE to share EYFS and Year 1 planning proformas (MTP and STP) and discuss rationale and practice
  • Discussion re: mixed phase planning and promoting opportunities for mixed age learning experiences
  • SLE to share electronic learning journey tracking using 2Simple app
  • SLE to share and explain pupil assessment and tracking systems (including next steps) for EYFS pupils to ensure provision responds to assessment data)
  • Discussion re: assessment of Reading and Systematic Phonics in EYFS and Year 1

SLE Dialogue re: daily timetabling, use of adults, use of teaching spaces, resourcing and furnishing

Half day

  • SLE to share daily timetabling and planning to open up discussion re: day to day practice
  • Discussion re: how to redesign existing classroom layout to develop areas of learning and challenge stations
  • Model use of pinterest to gain ideas for EYFS continuous provision (e.g themed boxes, open-ended resources, loose parts etc)
  • Create a list of resources required to develop interest areas and small world boxes linked to themes / pupil interests (pebbles, beads, boxes, fabric, cloth, shells, gems, wooden numbers etc)
  • Discussion re: adapting the use of the outdoor area to maximize opportunities for more purposeful learning experiences – removing bikes and trikes, developing open-ended resources, creating areas of learning (den-play, water play etc), use of natural resources, use of ‘set’ challenges outdoors to reduce repetitive learning experiences

SLE Deployment Evaluation Form is completed

EXAMPLE 2:Subject LeaderSUPPORT

Headteacher/lead person from the school receiving support would meet with the SLE to:

  • Identify aims and objectives
  • Agree dates and times
  • Ensure expectations of SLE is understood

SLE to visit school requiring support to collect and discuss provision currently in place

Half day

Headteacher/lead person from the school requiring support to meet with the SLE to:

  • undertake a learning walk
  • work sampling or lesson observation

SLE to prepare Support Action Plan

Visit to supporting school to look at their provision and practices

Half day

Headteacher /lead person from the school receiving support to attend a learning walk at the supporting school to:

  • gain an insight into successful best practices in the area designated for development
  • observe some teaching and undertake a scrutiny of work/look at monitoring systems in place

Joint action planning and support session

Half day

SLE and Subject Leader from the school receiving support undertake shared action planning session in a coaching/mentoring style.

The role of the SLE is to support the Subject Leader and develop their leadership ability.

Follow up support and review session 1

Half day

SLE works with the Subject Leader to:

  • review actions and related evidence
  • set new targets for the next visit

Follow up support and review session 2

Half day

SLE works with the Subject Leader to:

  • review actions and related evidence
  • identify what has gonewell since the last visit and where there is still work to be done
  • SLE Deployment Evaluation Form is completed

Cost: £175 per session x 6
